Found Site : Sit Properly

This is one of the most weirdest names I have come across for a spiritual site. And the design is just as weird, but nice. The site doesn’t even have an photograph of Sri Krishna anywhere, but it does have an image of a (seemingly) tulsi mala. This site is done by a ISKCON devotee.

And this is the story behind the name Sit Properly, as the site says:

Every morning in every Hare Krishna temple everywhere, there is a japa period. It’s an hour or so set aside specifically for chanting. During this period, a tape or CD of Srila Prabhupada chanting japa is played. This is wonderfully beneficial. It’s a 70 minute recording of nothing but the soft chanting of Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare. However, at one point, if you listen closely, the chanting falls almost silent and you hear Srila Prabhupada quickly chastising a devotee by telling him to “Sit properly!”

The site tells it has 2 important purposes:
1) To get as many people as possible interested in chanting Hare Krishna.
2) To help those who are already chanting improve the quality of their chanting.

The site has some writings stressing the importance of chanting.  The download section has some Japas and Lectures. If there is anything you need to know about chanting, this site will sure help you out.

  1. Hare Krishna Prabhu,

When I was in Vrindhavan last year, I managed to get a cd that had Srila Prabhupad japa rounds. Later, one early morning, I put this CD for the first time to sit quietly and listen. As I was listening to it in a relaxed sort of way, so pleased that I am listening to a great acharya, suddenly there was a thundering voice in the room – “SIT PROPERLY!!”

I had no previous knowledge of the “Sit Properly” order by Srila Prabhupad that was a part of the CD recording! No words to describe that jolt I had, Prabhu.

  2. Thanks for pointin out Prabhuji. I feel that the person (of Sit Properly website) heard Srila Prabhpada’s voice in his inner mind or something like that. What do you feel Prabhu? Anything wrong with it?
