Today is the 1000th Thirunakshatram of Swami Thirukachi Nambhigal. The occassion has been celebrated with fanfare at Poonamalee {Thirukachi Nambhigal’s birth place, near Chennai}. Today is the 10th & final day of the celebrations at Poonamalee. Another acharya, Swami Koorathazhvan 1000th year Thirunakshatram falls next year {2010}.

Swam Thirukachi Nambhigali used to do Thiru Aalavatta Kainkaryam to Kanchi Sri Varadaraja Perumal. Sri Thirukachi Nambi was blessed with the rare privilege of conversing with Lord Sri Varadaraja while performing the kainkaryam to the Lord. Here’s an interesting incident from Thirukachi Nambhigal’s life.

During the times of Thirukachi Nambhigal, a bagavatha had a daily routine of taking some sand from the footsteps of Nambhigal and place it on his head. He asked Nambhigal to ask Perumal, if he would attain Moksha. The next day Swami Nambhigal narrated the incident to the Lord, to which the Lord replied that since the person had His Adiyar’s sambhandham {related to God’s disciple} he will definetely attain Moksha. Nambhigal conveyed this to the bagavatha, who was really happy about it. The bagavatha then made an interesting request to Nambhigal. He requested Nambhigal to ask Perumal, if he {Nambhigal} would attain Moksha. Thirukachi Nambhigal was amazed at the request and he asked Perumal about it. Perumal’s reply shocked Nambhigal, “Neer Veesineer, Naan Pessinen” {You fanned, I spoke}. Nambhigal asked the reason for him not attaining Moksha to which Perumal said that he had not yet had any Bagavatha Sambhandham. Nambhigal immidietly left and hiding his identity worked for Thirukostiyur Nambhi as a maatukaaran {Cart man}. Once Thirukostiyur Nambhi addresses Thirukachi Nambigal as “Namma maatukaaran” {Our Cart man, which earns Thirukachi Nambigal bagavatha sambhandham and makes Nambhigal eligible for Moksha. This incident shows the imporatnce of Adiyar & Bagavatha sambhandam.
